Each August, Congress adjourns for a month-long recess and elected officials return to their home districts to meet with constituents, focus on their campaigns if facing reelection, and spend time preparing for the upcoming fall session. This year, Congress will reconvene on Monday, September 9th and return to the floor to continue working on pending legislation.
This #TakeActionTuesday, take the time to research pending legislation and urge your representatives to act on the issues that matter most to you once Congress reconvenes.
- Research Pending Legislation. Take the time to research pending bills and resolutions, and stay up to date on the status of legislation that matters to you. Check out this breakdown of all the bills and resolutions currently before Congress.
- Meet With Your Reps. Take advantage of the two remaining weeks of August recess to reach out to your representatives while they are still in your district. Use this time to discuss their priorities after Congress reconvenes, and ask if they will consider supporting pending legislation that matters to you.
- Plan Ahead. No votes are scheduled until Congress reconvenes, so use the next two weeks to plan out how and when you will contact your representatives throughout the coming months. Keep an eye on the Congressional calendars to see which votes are coming up, once they’ve been scheduled.
