This Friday, Congress plans to adjourn for the year, with legislators returning to their districts until early January. And, while the impeachment process continues to dominate the news cycle, other critical votes are also taking place in both the House and the Senate throughout the week.
Upcoming votes include the government spending deal and a new North American trade deal. These bills include landmark, bipartisan provisions like federally-funded gun violence research, scheduled discussions on drug pricing, and the raising of the legal age to purchase tobacco products to 21 years old.
This Take Action Tuesday, take action on upcoming legislation ahead of the holiday recess.
- Track Your Issue Priorities. Visit GovTrack to search for current bills by issue area. Then, find specific legislation that addresses your issue priorities, track where bills are in the legislative process, and see how you can weigh in.
- Do Your Research. Ahead of this week’s important votes, do some research and take a stance on the issues included in the government spending and trade bills. Share surprising or important findings with those around you to amplify your impact!
- Contact Your Legislators. After deciding where you stand, contact your legislators, and tell them how you would like to be represented. Even if you find that your legislators are already aligned with your position, it is helpful to share positive feedback to help support their position.
