On Friday, March 8th, the world will celebrate International Women’s Day. Since 1910, International Women’s Day has presented advocates and organizations with an annual opportunity to reflect upon the historic struggle towards gender equality, celebrate the progress made, and reaffirm the work that still needs to be done in countries across the globe.
This #TakeActionTuesday, organize around the International Women’s Day platform and prepare for this global day of action.
- Celebrate Women In Your Life. In addition to providing a platform for galvanizing action, International Women’s Day presents us with an important opportunity to reach out to the women who have positively influenced our lives and paved the way for our own success. Take a moment to express your appreciation for the women in your past and present who have mentored, taught, and inspired you along your journey, and remind them of their impact.
- Support Women’s Organizations and Businesses. Identify organizations that are working to achieve greater gender equality and/or directly serving the needs of women in your community, and ask how you can support their work. To support our work at All In Together towards closing the gender gaps that exist in civic engagement, follow this link to make a donation. Also, consider how you can support local women-owned businesses this International Women’s Day. Check out this directory to find a women-owned business near you.
- Reconnect To The Issues. Use International Women’s Day to advocate on behalf of the issues that uniquely or disproportionally impact the lives of women (including yourself). Contact your representatives, let them know which issues are most important to you and why, and tell them how you’d like them to take action.
