In the past few weeks, a number of state legislatures have passed bills that directly impact the lives of women. In response, advocacy groups are organizing rallies and demonstrations both in support and in protest of these bills. Since 2016, 1 in 5 Americans has attended a rally or march. While political rallies are an easy way to get involved, they are only the first step in effective advocacy.
This #TakeActionTuesday, use your momentum from a rally to make change at the local and state level.
- Contact Your Representatives. Join forces with those who you marched with to share your views with your state representatives on the passed or pending legislation in your state. Learn more about who represents you and contact them here.
- Find Upcoming Elections. Multiple states have gubernatorial and state legislative elections this year, as well as many mayoral races and local elections. Use the U.S. Vote Foundation website to find election dates in your area and then add them to your calendar (and invite a friend or two).
- Support Women Running For Office. Support women at the polls and throughout the election cycle in order to elevate women’s voices on every issue. Learn about the women running for state office with this list.
