On September 23rd, 2023, the Houston Food Bank hosted our Houston Community Leadership Program Summit. This event served as a platform for local leaders, individuals with a strong commitment to their communities, and essential community partners to come together and discuss ways to create change in our communities.
All In Together’s Community Leadership Program (CLP) equips underserved women in civic deserts across America with the skills, knowledge, resources, and relationships to become effective citizen advocates and community leaders. We give women the knowledge, resources, and relationships to identify and advocate around local issues most important to their community.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet leaders in their local community to learn about local initiatives that impact their lives, such as civic participation, voter engagement, gender equity, and community participation, as well as participate in breakout sessions.
The event featured a panel of local leaders, including Miryea Ayala, Judge Sonya Heath, Representative Penny Morales Shaw, Ivy Lawrence-Walls, and Katie Campbell Shumway, who moderated the discussions. In addition to discussing how their organizations or how they themselves address these issues in and around Houston, the panelists engaged in a Q&A with attendees.
