For many people, the holiday season means gift-giving for loved ones. While finding the perfect gifts for those in your life, consider how you can use the opportunity to empower those around you to become more engaged and effective civic leaders while strengthening your community.
This #TakeActionTuesday, give gifts that grow civic leadership in your communities and beyond. Check out some ideas below to get started:
- Give Gifts That Empower. Consider how your gifts can encourage those around you to become more equipped civic leaders. For example, give the gift of information by purchasing a subscription to a reputable news source. Or, look for paid events, conferences, or online courses that will help your loved ones stay informed all year long.
- Support Community Efforts. A crucial step in effective civic leadership is getting to know and supporting the efforts of those who live and operate in your own community. Visit holiday markets in your own backyard and look to purchase gifts that support local advocacy organizations or nonprofits that you value.
- Make A Donation. Honor and encourage the specific interests and issue priorities of those around you by making a donation to an advocacy organization or nonprofit in someone’s name. Show those on your shopping list that you recognize their unique passions, while reminding them how they inspire you and others to take action. Be on the lookout for organizations that are matching donations through the holiday season to double your impact!
