Election Rules
Voter Registration Deadline: 21 days before Election Day online or by mail, or same-day registration if voting in-person during early voting or on Election Day.
Early Voting in D.C varies but starts no more than 10 days before the election. Find your early voting location here. Mail-in ballots can also be dropped off at any of the locations on this page.
Restoration of Voting Rights After Felony Conviction: The right to vote is automatically restored for felons upon their release from incarceration.
ID Requirements for Voting: Registered voters do not need ID to vote, but some polling places may require ID to enter the facility. If registering at the polls, you will need to show proof of residence to register and vote.
Absentee Voting: Anyone can request an absentee ballot, no excuse is necessary. Requests for mail-in ballots must be received at least 7 days prior to the election. The completed ballot must be postmarked by Election Day. Access the request form here.
